    Common questions.

Does the Apprenticeship Levy work the same way in Northern Ireland?
No. The levy is a UK-wide payroll charge collected by HMRC, but Northern Ireland does not operate the English digital apprenticeship service account. Apprenticeship training here is funded separately by the Department for the Economy, so NI employers cannot draw down their levy payments the way an English employer can.
    Who pays the Apprenticeship Levy?
Employers with an annual pay bill over £3 million. The charge is 0.5% of the pay bill, offset by a £15,000 annual allowance.
What does apprenticeship training cost an employer in Northern Ireland?
For eligible apprentices under ApprenticeshipsNI, the Department for the Economy funds the training delivery, so there is no training fee to the employer. You pay the apprentice's wages. Where an apprentice falls outside the funded criteria, we quote the training separately.
    Is this checker a quote?
No. It is an indicative guide based on published rules. Eligibility depends on the individual employee, the framework and current Department for the Economy criteria, so the figures should be confirmed with our team before you plan around them.
